Together, we are building a safer future because no good society turns a blind eye to its vulnerable and missing children.

-Suffolk County Executive, Edward P. Romaine.

Mission Statement

To create a coordinated and inter-agency rapid response to provide the Safe and Lasting Return for Suffolk County’s missing, exploited or at high-risk children to their homes and their communities.

About

Operation Safe and Lasting Return is a multi-agency initiative dedicated to protecting vulnerable children and preventing exploitation. With Suffolk County ranked in the top 20 percentile nationally for human trafficking, this effort brings together law enforcement, social services, and community organizations under a coordinated, no-silos approach to ensure that no child falls through the cracks.

Recognizing that trafficking is not just a crime but a systematic business targeting children as young as 7 to 11 years old, Suffolk County has secured state funding to develop comprehensive services that provide immediate safety, intensive therapeutic support, and long-term care. Operation Safe and Lasting Return is committed to rescuing, restoring, and protecting our children, ensuring they receive the care, intervention, and stability they deserve. The initiative also provides wraparound services for the families of children who have been trafficked or who have gone missing.
